5. Fall Prevention Safety Tips
Review medications. Prescription and over-the-counter meds and
1 supplements to check for side effects and interactions that could
increase fall risk.
2 Avoid high heels, flip-flops, slippers, and shoes with slick soles
which can make you slip or stumble.
With your doctor’s permission and guidance, find some form of
3 gentle exercise that can reduce fall risks by improving strength,
flexibility, balance, and coordination.
4 Check carpets, rugs, and floor coverings for frayed corners and
rolled-up edges, bumps. Flat, sturdy walkways are very important.
Never use towel racks to balance or grab onto while getting in or
5 out of the bathtub/shower. Instead install grab bars, which you may
find at your local home improvement store.
