A committee was assembled to finalize the details

then unanimously accepted by voters at the

Texas did gain its independence in 1836, it wasn’t
until 1845 that it officially became the state that

9. WAR BREAKS OUT
• It wasn’t long after Texas became a state that war
broke out between the U.S. and Mexican militaries.
• On April 25th of 1846, 2,000 Mexican cavalrymen
attacked a U.S. patrol of 70 after they were found
patrolling contested territory.
• This skirmish would take the lives of 16 U.S. soldiers
and kick off the Mexican-American War, but this battle
was the first and last of the war to take place in Texas.

10. GREAT DEPRESSION
In the early to mid-1900’s,

economic growth as well
as a depression.

11. OIL DISCOVERED
Oil was even discovered in the Gulf of Mexico, leading
to the most aggressive economic growth the state had
ever seen, but Texas was hit by the Great Depression as
