Rupert exits down the aisle after telling Frances he needs a moment alone to process everything that has changed. They will need to learn patience with each other. Fred and Ted then enter, passing each other and exchanging greetings as they stroll down the aisles. Fred remarks to Ted about the cold weather and asks how long Ted has been back, learning it has been a few weeks. Fred notes there are many soldiers still to return home. Fred comments on the silence, which Ted confirms he cannot hear anything either. Fred says he could listen to the silence for hours.

believed in, has been torn to shreds. Nothing is as it was. (He moves to leave down the aisle)
FRANCES: Rupert,please-
RUPERT: Leave me, please, let me just have a moment alone. We're going to have to
learn to be patient with each other.
Rupert exits down the aisle. Frances exits back to SR area.

Fred and Ted have entered and are strolling.from the side aisles. They pass one another at
various times between scenes, always giving quick greetings to each other:

FRED: Can you hear that?
Ted listens intently
TED: No, I can't hear anything
FRED: Exactly - silence - It's strange isn't it.
TED Aye, it is that.
Long pause
FRED I could listen to that for hours
TED But you're not actually listening to anything
