2. 1) Sold Out Doak-
Campbell Stadium
Around this time last year,
Florida State hosted
Oklahoma in what was one
of the most electric
environments I have ever
witnessed. I'll never forget
standing on the 40 yard line,
next to the College
Gameday crew, looking up
and seeing 80,000 plus
chopping. Florida State
catches flack for seldomly
filling their stadium
(deservedly so), but when
Doak is packed, and the
fans are ravenous, "F-L-O-R-I-
D-A-S-T-A-T-E, FLORIDA
STATE, FLORIDA STATE,
FLORIDA STATE" is
deafening.
3. 2) Sammy Watkins
After serving a two game
suspension to open the
season, Mr. Sammy Watkins
debut put him back where
he belongs, the highlight
reel--racking up ____ yards.
Watkins hasn't missed a
beat, but he is itching to
return to Sportcenter's Top
10. The way to get there is
big plays against Florida
State, not Furman. The
preseason Heisman
contended truely begins his
season this week. With no
established front-runner, if
Watkins has a big game, his
name and Heisman will
once again be in the same
sentence.
4. 3) Collin Klein
Speaking of Heisman, why
not mention Klein. He has
earned the reputation for
being the toughest guy in
college football. He will
need to have the game of
his life on Saturday night.
Klein will have to run the ball
more than his average 15
carries a game. If he leads
the Wildcats to a victory in
Norman, on national
television, the Heisman Klein
campaign really starts
rolling.
5. 4) Auburn Defensive
Coodinator, Brian
VanGorder
If you've had the chance to
catch a glimpse of Auburn's
new defensive coordinator,
Brian VanGorder, you
assuredly can appreciate the
70's porn star swagger strutting
up and down the sideline. You
might even say, "where have I
seen him before?" It's been a
while since his film debut as
Napoleon Dynamite's Uncle
Rico, but his passing
demonstration VHSs landed
him a job on the plains. This
weekend, VanGorder has the
task of shutting down LSU's
running back duo of Kenny
Hilliard and Alfred Blue, who
are each averaging nearly
100 yards rushing per game.
6. 5) De’Anthony “Black
Mamba” Thomas
16 yards every time he
touches the ball. When was
the last time you saw those
types of video game
numbers? With the graduation
of LaMichael James, Thomas
has emerged as the most
electrifying tailback ever for a
Chip Kelly led Oregon squad.
This week he was given the
title "The Fastest Man in
College Football" when he
appeared on the cover of
Sports Illustrated. If you
haven't had the chance to
watch Thomas, he alone is
worth the reason to stay up
late Saturday when the Ducks
take on Arizona.
7. 6) Poll Watch, Who is the
Best Conference?
If you are to believe that polls
are an accurate
representation of the best
teams in the country, than you
can infer that, to date, the Big
12 is the best conference in
the country. According the
latest AP poll, the Big 12 has
seven ranked teams, leading
all other conferences. The
SEC, who has six ranked teams
and winner of the the last six
national championships,
would argue that they are the
best conference. The Pac-12
has been the surprise this
season with the strong starts of
Arizona, UCLA, Oregon State
and perennial powers
Oregon, USC, and Stanford.
