1. The Nichada Thani community of families has a large population of younger children.
Safety is an issue that must be closely regarded in maintaining a healthy environment. Many
families in Nichada have closely working employees such as house maids, nannies, and
extended family that care for children. Swimming, being both an exciting and fun activity,
maybe hazardous at times and safety must be addressed. However many people who care for
these children lack the knowledge skills of first aid and general pool safety.
For my Eagle project I wish to take the opportunity to teach people who care for
younger children in Nichada Thani the fundamental of first aid and water safety. The lesson
will consist of accident prevention, first aid, and water rescue. The water rescue will
especially focus on non-swimmer rescue methods as well as highlight the use of safety
equipment. The course will not be offering CPR and other complex methods of life saving,
but will focus on aspects of prevention and reaction.
The demonstration will specifically cover fundamental topics and information of water
safety and its importance. The presentation will also cover and reinforce basic rule pools
(such as no running on deck, get out at the sight of lightning and/or the sound of thunder).
The demonstration section of this presentation will cover and exhibit the procedures taken to
assist endangered and injured individuals. The main topics of the presentation are listed:
Pool and Deck safety, Floatation Devices, Life Saving Equipment, Pool Rules, and
Emergency Rescue Procedures. And most importantly the demonstration will be presented
in both English and Thai.
The project will be a presentation and demonstration to members of the Nichada Thani
community. As mentioned previously, the targeted population for this demonstration is
directed towards individual’s who care for young children, this is the targeted population as it
seems the most beneficial to individuals with these characteristics. These individuals may
speak little English and thus will be presented in Thai as well.
Finally, I plan to host the presentation at a public pool facility, most likely at the pool
of International School of Bangkok. And in preparation for this course, volunteers will
prepare and practice the presentation prior to the actual public demonstration of it.
If the turnout to view and participate in the presentation and demonstration is low, then
post the presentation day, emails and other notification to the public will be sent either as a
digital or hard copy of the brochure outlining the basics of water safety. It is important to do
this, as the education of water safety is extremely vital and important to the overall health and
safety of the community.
