1. Skins trailer- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96BrqIgallw
How does the skins promo trailer create representation of young people?
The Skins trailer represents a lot about young people it the video, it starts with
a person dressed up in a bear suit this just gives the audience an example of the
random chaotic atmosphere that happens at parties, then it cuts and goes on to a
low angle shot of a DJ’s hands putting on a vinyl while a strobe light flashes
away over his hands, this pre warns the viewer of the madness that’s going to
occur doing the trailer, this is what you would expect at a party, and also shows
a sophistication of technology at the party showing the viewer its not just a
casual party the with a few people. By having this equipment it shows that it is
going to be a good heavy night.
The shot then goes on to two main characters of the programme one wearing
neon glasses, this is not a normal thing to wear to wear during the day showing
how at parties certain things come a standard procedure. He hugs the other
character who appears to be well dress indicating his late arrival. The next cut
is a low angle shot of half dress student’s cover in whipped cream; this
indicates the games and antics of the night and gives the viewer a taster of
what’s going to carry that night.
As it’s a very chaotic party with lots of happenings taking place it’s very hard
to capture all of it, so quick cuts are used to give the viewer an image of what’s
happening and how it’s going to progress later throughout the night. The
movement of the partiers is very different and unusual, this is enhanced with
the drugs, and alcohol consumed that night, it is obvious it is unusual
movement as this type of dancing would not be normal at a formal event where
it is visible that girls and boys and are half dressed. As the clip carries on it is
noticeable that the movement slows down and groups start to disperse to
quieter locations of the house, as people start to feel ill as the have pushed
themselves to the limits, as seen
in this picture here which is taken
from near the end. Also the
colouring of peoples faces begin
to get more discoloured nearer the
end of the night, this ties in with
again pushing themselves.
2. The camera angles are mostly of
close ups and distance shots. I feel
that these were the right shots to
be used as with the close up shots;
the viewer can understand the
way the party goer feels from
their facial expressions and
actions, like this.
Another person can be seen in the back ground, and can also be seen pulling a
similar face. The distance shots are very effective in feeling the atmosphere in
the party as it gives you a much better view in all the antics happening. As seen
in this photo here. Pillows and other objects can be seen thrown, showing that
the aggression has increased from the beginning where hugging and greeting
people was what was happening.
Even though little thought has
seemed to be put into this
party, a neon lighting rope can
be seen across the camera
view, I find it is not that
noticeable due to the many
happenings in the background
as your eyes initially focus on
that. But when looked in detail
things become more noticeable
like the person on someone’s
shoulders, this is an unnatural thing to do indoors again highlighting the fact of
drunken youths and how the younger generation don’t think things through and
the implications of what could happen if she/he fell.
The last shot really sums up the representation of youths, with them all piled up
looking very tired after a hard night, The Indian person has a lamp shade on his
head which is not correct behaviour as a lamp may had been broken in the
process of creating the lamp shade hat.
