An Example to Explore Trinity; From “Two fleshes to be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24) to “Three Godheads in One (Trinity)”
1. From “Two fleshes to be one flesh”(Genesis 2:24) to
“Three Godheads in One (Trinity)”
Only ONE GOD; the LORD is ONE
Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our GOD, the Lord is one!” (Dt 6:4).
Two distinctdivine persons (Father and Son) as ONE
From “KREGEL DICTIONARY of the Bible and Theology” in Trinity, p.548:
“Jesus Christ Himself interpreted Psalm 110:1 as referring to the Father and Son as two distinct
divine persons (Mt 22:42-45).”” The LORD [Yahweh] says to my Lord [Adonai]: „Sit at My right
hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.‟” Adonai is used frequently as a divine
name. Yahwehalways refer to the God of Israel.”
Both Adonai and Yahweh in ancientHebrew were used only referring to GOD and there is
only ONE GOD.
Two distinct divine persons (Father and HIS Spirit) as ONE
From “KREGEL DICTIONARY of the Bible and Theology” in Trinity, p.548:
“In its monotheistic context, the clearest evidence for a trinity of persons in the Godhead is in
Isaiah 48:16. „Come near to Me, listen to this: From the first I have not spoken in secret, from
the time it took place, I was there. And now the Lord God and his spirithas sent Me.‟”
Has: third person singular verb form.
Two fleshes to be one flesh
From “KREGEL DICTIONARY of the Bible and Theology” in Trinity, p.547:
“The unity of GOD is emphasized in the creedal verse known as Shema: “Hear, O Israel! The
Lord is our GOD, the Lord is one!” (Dt 6:4). The ordinal translated “one” (Echad; )is an
intriguing choice when looking at the unity of God in the context of His Trinity. Echad( )
indicates a unity in which there is room for diversity.Only this word for a compound unity is used
in the OT specify God‟s oneness. Echadis used of the “one flesh”of marriage involving two
persons (Gen 2:24)”

2. Genesis 2:21-24 (King James Version)
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of
his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her
unto the man.
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called
23
Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and
they shall be oneflesh.
Let‟s learn something from the game “Three Legged Race”
Two people stands adjacent next to eachother, tied their adjacent feet together and run.
They have to move together toward the same direction (i.e. share the same “vision”) in order
to move forward (MoveTOGETHER as ONE).
From verse 2:24:
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they
shall be one flesh.
Cleave unto means bundle together.
Here‟s the problem:
Even two fleshes were bundled together, they are still two individuals, will not “merge” into one
flesh PHSICALLY.
(1) What the Bible means “two fleshesto be one flesh”?
It means “Move TOGETHER as ONE”; i.e. UNITY(合一) SHOWING FROM OUTSIDE
2
3. Ephesians 5:22-24
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he
is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands
in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
And the elements of the “Bundle Power” are love and submission.
(2) How can we be sure that a Christian couple will share the same vision (in order to
be able to move forward)?
Because Jesus is their (our) head andthey share the same (Holy) Spirit inside.
1 Cor 11:3
“But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the
head of the woman is the man; andthe head of Christ is God.”
Therefore in Genesis 2:24 “Man….shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” (two
fleshes to become one) DOES NOT MEAN that two fleshes PHYSICALLY MERGE into ONE.
It means that the husband and wife should share the same inside (Spirit) and act
(perform) as one outside.
Trinity; Three Godheads in One
By implying the same concept into Three Godheads in One:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit all have different persona (same as the case in previous two fleshes
case).

4. Three Godheads really SHARE THE SAME SUBSTANCE INSIDE and PERFORM AS UNITY
OUTSIDE.
Since they share same substance inside, they should be co-equal and co-glory.
We also can see that they perform as unity outside in Creation, Salvation, and Revelation all the
time.
As mentioned before in 1 Cor 11:3
“But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is
the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
As woman‟s submission to man, Jesus submitted to GOD as GOD is the HEAD of the body (i.e.
IN ONE).
Trinity would be better to be translatedas 三一真神 or 三(位)合一 instead of 三位一體 since there
is no flesh‟s (體) existence; just the UNITY.
HoweverGenesis 2:24was and should be translated as 二人成為一體 due to the existence of
“one flesh”.
