2. About Martha’s Vineyard
• Martha’s Vineyard is a 10 by 20 mile island that is home to many fabulous vacation

• Martha’s Vineyard is home to gorgeous beaches and is home to the Island’s most
moderate climate during summer months that rarely exceeds 90°F.

3. Aquinnah
• Formerly called “Gay Head,” Aquinnah
is the most western area of Martha’s
Vineyard. The region is rural and
unspoiled, with stone walls, farms, and
vineyards.
• They have many beaches, including
Aquimmah Public Beach, also known as
Moshup Beach, and Lobsterville Beach,
which is ideal for children because of
the calm and shallow water.
• If you like kayaking, sailing, and
windsurfing, then you should go to
Menemsha Pond. The pond is a mile
square that leads into two other small,
beautiful ponds, and empties into the
Vineyard Sound next to Menemsha
Harbor.
4. Chappaquiddick
• Chappaquiddick is commonly
referred to as “an island off an
island,” with dirt roads lined
with blueberry bushes and an
area of frequent sightings of
deer, osprey, otters, shorebirds,
and turtles.
• Chappaquiddick has the privacy
and tranquility that some
vacationers prefer.
• Either by bike or kayak, you can
explore the sand dunes and
tidal ponds, the glacial moraine,
and the sand plain grassland
habitats.
5. Chilmark
• Chilmark is commonly referred to as
the “up-island.”
• Chilmark is known for its rolling
meadows, stone walls, and one of
the Island’s finest beaches, Lucy
Vincent Beach.
• It is also home to Menemsha, the
classic New England fishing village
on the east coast of Menemsha Pond
that is adjacent to the opening to
Vineyard Sound.
6. Edgartown
• Edgartown is the island’s first colonial
settlement with upscale shops, art
galleries, and fine restaurants.
• Edgartown is home to the Lighthouse
Beach, a destination in which you can
walk from town to enjoy the calm
water or watch boats travel in and out
of the harbor.
• The 200-acre Felix Neck Wildlife
Sanctuary is about three miles from
downtown. Owned by the
Massachusetts Audubon Society, this
nature center provides marked trails
and offers conservation education
year round.
7. Katama
• Katama Road is a three-mile barrier
beach called South Beach, with surf
on one side and protected salt pond
on the other side.
• Katama is a pleasant bike ride from
Edgartown to South Beach along a
4-mile bike path.
• Katama is also known for its
exciting surf, so if you are looking
for a place to surf during your
vacation, look into Katama vacation
rentals.
8. Oak Bluffs
• Oak Bluffs is a popular family vacation
area that has several public parks,
including Ocean Park with its live
music throughout the summer.
• The Oak Bluffs Town Beach is a
delightful family beach with its calm
surf and soft sand. It is here that you
can watch boats travel in and out of
the harbor.
• If you like golfing, than Farm Neck
Golf Club is the only 18-hole course on
the Island.
• Located in downtown Oak Bluffs,
Circuit Avenue is considered the
liveliest place for visitors seeking late
night entertainment.
9. Vineyard Haven
• Vineyard Haven is home to charming
shops, popular restaurants and a beautiful
harbor, often filled with private yachts.
• The town beach at Owen Park allows you
to watch the ferries go by as they shuttle
passengers to and from the mainland. The
town band plays at Owen Park every other
Sunday evening in the summer.
• The premiere spots for photographers
include Tashmoo Lake that overlooks State
Road, West Chop Lighthouse, and the area
around the drawbridge on Beach Road.
• Vineyard Haven beaches include Owen
Park Beach on Vineyard Haven Harbor,
and Lake Tashmoo Town Beach on
Vineyard Sound.
10. West Tisbury
• West Tisbury has many acres of State
Forest, scenic beaches, rich farmland,
and many historical structures.
• Lambert’s Cove is home to some
lovely homes and a charming white
church. You can can stroll along a
woodland path to the beach.
• The Cedar Tree Neck Nature Preserve
comprises 300 acres of woodlands.
• Although fishing, picnics, and
swimming are not allowed, you can
explore all of the wonderful paths
throughout the woods and dunes and
along brooks and freshwater ponds.
