Zivame Hackathon Rewind
On the weekend of 15th and 16th November, we
organized a Hackathon for our client: Zivame.com.
This 24 hour event was a great success and we
thought of doing a quick rewind. 90 participants,
half in person and half online took part in the event,
which was conducted in order to recruit new
employees for 20 positions as software engineers
in Zivame.
Doors opened at 10 a.m. on Saturday, 15th
November, with some coders streaming in as early
as 9:30. The problem statement, which comprised
of two tasks, to build a responsive e­commerce
mobile store and application, and a rule engine that
categorizes offers and discounts, was announced
at 10:30 a.m. and the coders, who were
encouraged to work in teams, got to work! The
presentation ceremony took place at 10:30 am on
Sunday, 16th November.
In addition to job offers, participants competed for
lucrative financial rewards: winners got a cash
prize of Rs. 15,000, the runners up a prize of Rs.
10,000, while the second runners up got a prize of
Rs. 5,000. Special prizes were also on offer for
those who used innovative technologies to build
their apps.
In order to keep the attendees motivated, games
such as table tennis and carrom were provided,
and at midnight, for the 14 diehard coders who
pulled an all­nighter, an interesting role playing

instrumental in breaking the ice, and Shesh did a
good job in getting the normally reticent coders to
open up.
This new trend to recruit new talent for companies
is becoming very popular and stands to supplant
the traditional means of recruitment. According to
Subhendu, our co­founder, it will only be a matter
of time before companies in other domains like the
life sciences, manufacturing and bioinformatics get
into the action!
