の一つであり、読者の大半は大学の講義や社員研修等で
聞いたことがあるだろう。今更ながらも、素晴らしいビ
ジョンである。特に、"We are Ladies and Gentlemen serving
Ladies and Gentlemen."。このモットーは、社員に行動だけ
でなく思考も求めている。顧客や株主、取引先には、期
待や共感、協力を得るためのメッセージになっている。
リッツカールトンでは、このビジョンを徹底するために
人事評価制度等が工夫されているそうだが、詳しくは、

右は創業家出身で、1963年まで同社会長を務めたRobert Wood
Johnsonが策定したCREDO(信条)である。現在までに36の言
語に翻訳、世界中のグループカンパニーに配られている。
策定されたのは1943年というから戦時中だが、CSR (Corporate
Social Responsibility)がやかましく言われる今日ですら、CSRの
ステートメントとして、そのまま使えそうな内容になってい
る(とWebでも自慢している)。
創業120年を超えてなお成長を続ける世界の超優良企業。今回
の金融危機でも株価がほとんど下がっていないが、この先見
性に優れたCREDOがその一因だろうか。
Our CREDO:
We believe our first responsibility is to the doctors, nurses and
patients, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our
products and services. In meeting their needs everything we do
must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to reduce our

転換を迫られた企業の舵取りを物語った著作としては、 ル
イス・ガースナー氏(IBM 前CEO)の『巨像も踊る(*)』がMBA
コースなどで推薦書になるなど著名である。
90年代初め、IBMは現在の米国自動車ビッグ3のように深刻
な経営危機に陥り、12万人以上の解雇者を出し、アナリス
ト等からは「存在価値のない会社」、「数年で潰れる」と
酷評を受けていた。ご存知のように、 IBMはガースナー氏
の指揮下、当時のハードウェア中心のビジネスモデルか
ら、その後、サービス中心の超優良企業へと華麗なる変身
を遂げる。

蔓延する現在の日本の大手企業、役所、学校等の組織文化に驚くほど重な

既存事業を継続している営利企業の場合(*)、順番を右のよう
に変え、1)、2)から考え始めるのが良いだろう。何故なら、
非営利組織の場合、今あるリソース(=強み)を活用するしか
道がないが、営利企業の場合、既存市場へアクセス、つまり
顧客との接点自体が強みにもなる。顧客価値に繋がるものが
何か分かれば、それを買収や提携で入手できる可能性がある
からだ。

85. ”価値観の継承”とは、3章のMedtronicと Johnson & Johnson の
例が示すように、事業を軌道に乗せたリーダーが成功の秘訣
を”価値観”として組織に定着させようというケースである。
多くの優良企業で、この手の価値観は文章化しているので見
本には不自由はしないはずだ。Medtronic や Johnson & Johnson
も良い例になると思う。よって、ここでは、策定方法を述べ
ることは省略する。
