Over 300 people in Baton Rouge have sought treatment for using synthetic marijuana known as "k2" which contains banned chemical compounds. Police recovered over 8,500 packets of synthetic marijuana in St. Tammany Parish in October and seized 281 packs from a convenience store in Gonzales in 2012. Various smoke shops and convenience stores have illegally sold synthetic marijuana containing banned compounds linked to health issues.
