How to use Google Drive: Google Drive is an online (cloud) storing solution similar to the oh-so-popular Dropbox. There are a lot of big players in the cloud storing world that Google Drive will be competing with. The Dropbox, Microsoft's SkyDrive, Apple's iCloud, Evernote, and Box are all contending for your content. But Google Drive might just stand out from the pack. Google Drive is essentially the same as the former Google Docs but with some added features. You can store your documents, photos, music, videos, etc. all in one place. Just like with all the other services it syncs with your mobile devices and your computer, so if you make a change from one gadget, it will automatically show up if you were to access it elsewhere.

  • Google Drive Google Drive is an online (cloud) storing solution similar to the oh-so-popular Dropbox. There are a lot of big players in the cloud storing world that Google Drive will be competing with. The Dropbox, Microsofts SkyDrive, Apples iCloud, Evernote, and Box are all contending for your content.
  • Google DriveAnother great feature of Google Drive is that it tracks your revisions to documents up to 30days so if you make a change your not happy with and have already saved it, you can stillrevert to the old draft.Google offers both free and premium versions. Up to 5GB is free but if you need more you willpay $2.49/month for 25GB, $4.99/month for 100GB, and $49.99 a month for a whopping 1TB.Want to share a video with afriend but don’t want to addthat bulky file to your email?Google Drive gives yousharable links to the filespecified so there’s nouploading and downloadingrequired.
  • Google Drive Unlike Apples iCloud (which is only for iOS users), Google Drive is open to all platforms. It’s available for PC, Mac, iPad & iPhone (only through a web browser at the moment) and Android tablets and phones.
  • Google Drive To get started sign into Google Drive with your Google or Gmail account with your email and password. If you don’t already have a Google account sign up and confirm your email.
  • Google Drive Once your signed up and logged in to Google Drive, you will be taken to a page that shows all of the Google Documents you currently have associated with your Google account. If you’ve used other cloud services you will see that it’s pretty similar. You will be asked if you would like to download Google Drive for PC or Mac but you don’t have to use this option if you do not need to access your data from another computer. Otherwise, it’s a good idea to download.
  • Google Drive To keep your files organized you can create folders by clicking on Create on the left-hand-side of your screen. Not only can you create folders here but you can also create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, forms, drawings and more. This is an extension of Google Docs.
  • Google DriveTo upload from your computer clicking on theUpload icon (the disk with the up arrow locatedbeside the create button). This will allow you toupload files and folders to Googles serversand will give you shareable links to send tofriends/family of your choice. If you decide thatyou don’t want to share anything you canmake all or some files private. Your files areprivate by default so if you want to keep thissetting you don’t have to do anything. If youwant to share you will have to active each linkmanually. By clicking Upload you will also seewhat percentage of your storage you haveused.
  • Google DriveUse the navigation bar on the left to view thefiles that people have shared with you, the filesthat have been starred by you, recent files andmore options.
  • Google Drive Once you have downloaded Google Drive for your computer there will be a folder where you can drag and drop items you wish to put on your drive. This way you don’t have to open your web browser to Google Drive and log in every time you want to put something on your Drive.
  • Google Drive When your online viewing your files you can see what options are available with the file by clicking it. It will then bring up your file and you can click File, Edit, View or Help from the top menu. From here you can share, rename, manage revisions, download, etc., for the selected files.
  • Google Drive Now that we’ve gone through the basics you should have enough info to get started. We’re thinking Google Drive may give Dropbox a run for it’s money as currently Dropbox only offers 2GB free, but with 45 million users it’s the number one cloud storage system. On the flip side Google has millions of users already using their services so rather than signing up to a new website, they’ll turn to Drive by default. For the average user 5GB is probably sufficient for their needs so we’re thinking Google Drive will come out on top.
