How to use Google Drive: Google Drive is an online (cloud) storing solution similar to the oh-so-popular Dropbox. There are a lot of big players in the cloud storing world that Google Drive will be competing with. The Dropbox, Microsoft's SkyDrive, Apple's iCloud, Evernote, and Box are all contending for your content. But Google Drive might just stand out from the pack. Google Drive is essentially the same as the former Google Docs but with some added features. You can store your documents, photos, music, videos, etc. all in one place. Just like with all the other services it syncs with your mobile devices and your computer, so if you make a change from one gadget, it will automatically show up if you were to access it elsewhere.

Google Drive is an online (cloud) storing solution similar to the

cloud storing world that Google Drive will be competing with. The
Dropbox, Microsoft's SkyDrive, Apple's iCloud, Evernote, and Box
are all contending for your content. But Google Drive might just

other services it syncs with your mobile devices and your
computer, so if you make a change from one gadget, it will

5. Google Drive
Another great feature of Google Drive is that it tracks your revisions to documents up to 30
days so if you make a change your not happy with and have already saved it, you can still
revert to the old draft.
Google offers both free and premium versions. Up to 5GB is free but if you need more you will
pay $2.49/month for 25GB, $4.99/month for 100GB, and $49.99 a month for a whopping 1TB.
Want to share a video with a
friend but don’t want to add
that bulky file to your email?
Google Drive gives you
sharable links to the file
specified so there’s no
uploading and downloading
required.
6. Google Drive
Unlike Apple's iCloud (which is only for
iOS users), Google Drive is open to all
platforms. It’s available for PC, Mac,
iPad & iPhone (only through a web
browser at the moment) and Android
tablets and phones.
7. Google Drive
To get started sign into Google
Drive with your Google or Gmail
account with your email and
password. If you don’t already
have a Google account sign up
and confirm your email.
8. Google Drive
Once your signed up and logged in to Google Drive, you will be taken to a page that
shows all of the Google Documents you currently have associated with your Google
account.
If you’ve used other cloud services you will see that it’s pretty similar.
You will be asked if you would like to download Google Drive for PC or Mac but you
don’t have to use this option if you do not need to access your data from another
computer. Otherwise, it’s a good idea to download.
9. Google Drive
To keep your files organized you can create folders
by clicking on Create on the left-hand-side of your
screen. Not only can you create folders here but
you can also create documents, presentations,
spreadsheets, forms, drawings and more. This is
an extension of Google Docs.
10. Google Drive
To upload from your computer clicking on the
Upload icon (the disk with the up arrow located
beside the create button). This will allow you to
upload files and folders to Google's servers
and will give you shareable links to send to
friends/family of your choice. If you decide that
you don’t want to share anything you can
make all or some files private. Your files are
private by default so if you want to keep this
setting you don’t have to do anything. If you
want to share you will have to active each link
manually. By clicking Upload you will also see
what percentage of your storage you have
used.
11. Google Drive
Use the navigation bar on the left to view the
files that people have shared with you, the files
that have been starred by you, recent files and
more options.
12. Google Drive
Once you have downloaded Google Drive for
your computer there will be a folder where you
can drag and drop items you wish to put on
your drive. This way you don’t have to open
your web browser to Google Drive and log in
every time you want to put something on your
Drive.
13. Google Drive
When your online viewing your files you can
see what options are available with the file by
clicking it. It will then bring up your file and you
can click File, Edit, View or Help from the top
menu. From here you can share, rename,
manage revisions, download, etc., for the
selected files.
14. Google Drive
Now that we’ve gone through the basics you should have enough
info to get started. We’re thinking Google Drive may give Dropbox
a run for it’s money as currently Dropbox only offers 2GB free,
but with 45 million users it’s the number one cloud storage
system. On the flip side Google has millions of users already
using their services so rather than signing up to a new website,
they’ll turn to Drive by default. For the average user 5GB is
probably sufficient for their needs so we’re thinking Google Drive
will come out on top.
