The document provides instructions for drawing a Cubist-style cupcake in 3 steps: 1) Draw the cupcake outline using straight lines as guides, shifting the drawing slightly at each line. 2) Color and shade areas defined by the straight lines using pastels or chalk smudged along the lines. 3) Cut out newspaper shapes to fill some sections and color the rest of the cupcake, using the line technique for the background. The goal is to create a cupcake drawing with the fractured geometric planes characteristic of Cubist artwork.
14. Draw five straight lines on your paper
Two going down. Three going across.
15. Start to draw the simple outline of the
cupcake
It’s easier if you start at the top, in the middle.
16. When you reach a line, shift where you
are drawing slightly.
You can change the angle of the cupcake a little too.
This will help create the look of Cubist “fractured
planes”.
17. Carry on drawing the outline, shifting when you meet your straight lines.
20. You can now start to
colour and shade the
cupcake.
Put some pastel or chalk on the
straight edge of a scrap piece of
paper.
Place the edge of the scrap
paper along one of the straight
lines in you cupcake drawing.
Using your finger, carefully
smudge the pastel from the
scrap paper into the are you
wish to colour and shade.
You can do this to all the parts
of your cupcake that have
straight lines.
21. Try to use muted, realistic colours
where you can.
22. Pick a couple of sections of
cupcake to fill in with newspaper.
Cut them out carefully, and stick
them down.
You can always go over lines on
top of the newspaper that you
need to.
23. Carefully colour in the rest of your cupcake.
You can use the scrap paper & straight line
technique to fill in some of the
background.
