1. COURSE OBJECTIVE
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:-

COURSE OUTLINE
1. Changes in older adults 6. Personal hygiene, showering, grooming,
- Degenerative changes in ageing dressing and undressing a handicap person
- Emotional/Mental Care of the skin , hair, nails, oral hygiene , denture
- Physical –vision, hearing, taste, skin care
- Heart, lungs, bladder , bowel
- Bones. 7. Waste Management
- Care of the bowel
2. Prevention of Falls - Prevention and management of constipation in
- who falls, why do they fall the elderly Insertion of laxative suppositories,
- Prevention of falls ,education, offering assistance, - giving simple enema
constant surveillance
- Environmental safety 8. Waste Management
- Care of bladder-- incontinence – genitor urinary
3. Prevention of infections care
- standard procedures in Hand hygiene , hand wash,
hand rub , use of PPE, contact precaution 9. Movement and Transfer
- Care of bed or wheel chair bound patient
4. Taking and recording of vital signs - Use of mobility aides
- Temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure - Assist in prescribed exercises
- Normal and abnormal readings - Prevention of pressure ulcers
- Perform blood glucose test -Perform simple wound dressings
5. Nutrition in the elderly 10. Assist with administration of medication
- Preparing , serving meals . - Organisation and storage of medication
- Oral feeding, naso - Education on medication types, regime
- Gastric tube feeding - Medication preparation
- Hydration - Medication compliance
