3. Base 8
Base 8 also known as the Octal system only uses
the digits 0 – 7. As with both decimal and binary
systems, the octal system is a positional number
system.
4. Positional Notation
This is similar to decimal positional notation, but
uses the base number of 8 instead of 10.
Therefore the number 28 would look as follows:
28 = 20 + 8 (Base 10 = 2x101 + 8x100)
But in base 8 the same number would be 34.
5. Converting to base 8
To convert a number from base 10 to base 8 you
need to divide by 8.
