How a student documentary follows real media conventions
1. Question one
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. ā¢ Our media product does not challenge or push
the forms and conventions of real media
products this is because we wanted to create
a real media product so the best way to do
that is to follow the conventions not push
against them
4. ā¢ In the construction and filming of our product we made sure we followed
the conventions carefully.
ā¢ We filmed all our interviews on either the left or the right side of the
screen in either a close up just to see their face or medium close up so you
could see their shoulders too.
ā¢ Their eyes were in the rule of third
ā¢ When editing we made sure the graphics which told the audience who
they are that it was on the opposite side of the screen to where the
interviewee was sitting so it didn't take any distraction away
5. We used cutaways in our documentary so that it was interesting and also to
hide the jump cuts from different interviews
9. ā¢ Like professional documentary, we used varied camera angles. This was so our
work was creative as possible
ā¢ Also like professional documentaries we used a tripod so that our filming would be
steady
10. ā¢ Whilst we were filming our interviews we made sure the mise en scene was
relevant to the topic
Nathan is talking about working out
and weight loss, behind him is
weights which is relevant.
Joe is talking about exercising and
personal training, we interviewed
him in the gym which he works at
which is relevant.
