A special retainer design is used to maintain tooth positions until the final restoration is placed for ideal function, stability and esthetics. However the lower left central incisor is worn down from the previous excess forces on it, and it does not touch the top tooth. If we leave it like this, anterior guidance is not ideal and the top tooth will likely fall back lingually. The patient will be unsatisfied with the orthodontic relapse of the top teeth.
