GSMA Mobile World Congress 2012 was held at the Fira Barcelona from
February 27- March 1, 2012.
This year, Intel Corporation played a major role at the show by making
several new product announcements and plans at the Intel News
Conference with Intel CEO Paul Otellini, held on Monday, Feb. 27, 5:30-
6:30PM at the Barcelona Poble Espanyol de Montjuic. Along with new
product announcements made with regards to Intel’s engagements with
Orange*, Lava International Ltd*, ZTE*, and VISA*, Intel also showcased
several live demonstrations of these Smartphones based on its 32nm –
Intel® Atom™ processor Z2460 (“Medfield”) reference design.
The Intel® Atom™ processor Z2460 is a highly integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC) which is able to
deliver powerful graphics and video capabilities. Several applications were demonstrated at the
news conference using Lava’s* first Intel-powered Smartphone (dubbed Xolo X900*); Visa mobile
services* (specifically Movida*, Visa’s new payment service in India) on the Intel Medfield
Smartphone; Intel® Atom™ processor Z2460 – based Lenovo IdeaPad K2110 (running Android
Icecream Sandwich); the Orange Santa Clara* Smartphone (running Android 2.3 Gingerbread), etc.
In addition to the Intel News Conference, Intel showcased a variety of live Intel® Atom™ processor-
based Smartphone demonstrations along with static displays of 2nd Generation Intel® Core™
Processor – based Ultrabooks ™, Intel® Atom™ processor based Tablets and Smartphones, and
WWAN products from Intel Mobile Communications – all inside Hall 8, booth #B192 at Montjuic,
Fira de Barcelona.
