Are you worried about, the thought of, your child going off to college? Your initial
reaction is probably excitement about this momentous life event, but then, fear sets
in at the same time. Not about the academic aspect of these institutions, but about
the social aspect of them. There are a lot of parties on campus and that can lead to
drug and alcohol use. Your kids might believe that they are just having some
harmless fun. Simply just trying to loosen up after having studied hard all week
long.
However, they might not really know what they have just purchased for that
evening of entertainment. That one night, might lead to a long term addiction
forever altering their future. You might be wondering, how can that happen? Drugs
can have similar colors and textures, which can make it difficult to distinguish with
the naked eye.

2. Your child might think they purchased some pain killers or cocaine that they can
just sniff for that particular night, but in reality, it was pure heroin. A simple but
hazardous, fine, white powder. Traffickers will try to prey on unsuspecting clients
so they can hook them permanently. It is true that just one time using heroin will
change your child’s entire life. Heroin is an extremely addictive substance and this
can land your child a seat right into rehab. That is if they even make it to rehab
before they overdose.
Now, your child might say things like, “I’m an adult I can make my own
decisions.” This is true, but it doesn’t mean that you should stop being their parent
just because they turned eighteen. Your child may not like you at that moment, but
when they have a career and a family of their own then, they will surely thank you
for intervening.
