2. What is Augmented Reality?
Augmented Reality is computer generated virtual
material demonstrated in combination with a view of
the live world.
The augmentations can be anything, ranging from
simple numbers or text to large animations.
3. Types of AR Hardware
Augmented Reality can be utilized with a number of
different systems, including:
Traditional systems – “Normal” Systems such as
phones or computers can use their camera for AR.
Contacts – Contact lenses that display AR are in
development.
Glasses – One of the most idealized versions of AR,
glasses can be used as the screen, and additionally
serve as a practical place to fit a small camera.
Retina – There is some AR in very early development
that projects the view directly on to one’s retina.
4. What is the difference between
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality?
With virtual reality rising in popularity through
systems like the Oculus Rift, you might be wondering
how AR and VR are different.
While Augmented Reality takes the real world and
adds alterations or changes your perception, Virtual
reality creates an entirely new world.
5. What uses does AR have?
Augmented reality is being used and developed for use
in a number of areas, including:
Architecture – AR can be used to project building
plans into the spot where it will be built as well as
provide more advanced interfaces for Architects to
design with.
Gaming – AR has a large presence in gaming through
systems like the Wii and the Xbox Kinect.
6. What uses does AR have?
Automobiles – Augmented Reality is being rapidly
integrated into the interface of cars, some cars now
even display information on their windshields!
TV and Entertainment – Many broadcasts use some
kind of Augmented Reality. Did you know that the first
down line displayed during football games is a form of
AR?
7. Integration of Augmented Reality
Products are being developed to help shift AR into
commonplace in everyday life. An example of this is
Google Glass, AR being created by a trusted company
for everyday consumer use in the real world.
8. Summary
Overall, Augmented Reality offers great promise for
the future, as it will let people experience the world in
a whole new way. Additionally, it will most likely
contribute greatly to increasing effectiveness and
solving problems in many fields.
9. Looking Back
Augmented Reality can be defined as computer generated
elements combined with the real world.
There is a multitude of hardware for AR ranging from
phones to retina projections.
While VR is simply a new world, AR augments our own.
AR has a huge variety of uses from Architecture to gaming.
And AR is slowly developing into something that can be a
commonplace element of daily life.
