Question 3 Evaluation NOTES
1. What have you learned from your
audience feedback? *NOTES*
Rhiannon Jenkins
2. Stage One
• When I first had the initial ideas of doing a
horror/supernatural/thriller film, I created a
survey on SurveyMonkey and sent it out via
various social media platforms to get responses.
The results that came back showed that Thriller
and Horror genres were amongst the most
popular, so this is what aided me in deciding
which genre to go for. The results for this initial
survey were also the ones that told me where my
target audience was and it was a majorly female,
but only just (60%) and between the ages of 16-
21.
3. Stage Two
• After joining a group with Yasmin and deciding on
our genre (supernatural thriller) and basic
plotline and ideas, we made a short PowerPoint
and presented it to the class. The class liked our
ideas but pointed out more technical things that
we had to worry about such as what lighting we
were going to use whilst filming, what location
would be best and how we were going to use
sound within the trailer. We were also advised to
try out the editing software to alter lighting
before shooting our actual product.
4. Ancillary Feedback
• What do you like about this magazine
cover?
Bold, clear colours.
• Professional-looking.
• Stands out.
• Easy to read text and easily digestible
layout.
• What do you think I can do to improve
this magazine cover?
• Edit main image so it is brighter and more
eye-catching.
• Less exclamation marks and more ellipsis.
• More colour; possibly to highlight specific
parts of text.
What do you like about this film poster?
•Conveys genre well.
•Blending of the two images works well.
•Draws audience members in and is intriguing.
What can I do to improve this film poster?
Make the title more eye-catching.
•Tag line could be more specific to the film.
•Maybe add another colour to the text "October
2014" to make it stand out more.
•Position of title and tagline needs to be
aligned.
•Possibly add ratings from a paper.
I created another survey to get feedback on the penultimate editions of my ancillary
tasks. I basically asked the audience what they liked and didn’t like about each product
and these were the results after analysing them: -The results allowed me to see what
parts of posters and magazines were found most attractive to the audience and this
allowed me to highlight these areas to make them more sellable. -
5. Main Task Feedback
• The main task feedback I got for some of my inital edits
was that I needed to make some things clearer – such
as the flashbacks, make the intertitling neater and
easier to read and don’t be afraid to cut clips short. All
of these were to stop me from alienating my audience
because although it is clear to me what I want to be
shown, to someone who has no idea of the plot basis
at all it may be very hard to follow.
• I continuously sent out different versions of my trailer
and asked for feedback every time, allowing me to
tweak tiny details to make it the best it can be.
