1. Outlook Error ID 0x8004010F
I was assisting a caller from the Netherlands about an Outlook issue
wherein when he tries to open Outlook it would tell him that the PST
file cannot be located.
He was getting error
"C:UsersUsernameDocumentsPSTFile.pst cannot be
located". It was basically a matter of the PST file being moved to a
different location.
Of course, locating the PST was a very simple task. If in case you're
wondering how you're going to go about this, here's how I did it:
Locating the PST File:
1. I ran this command in Command Prompt
CD
dir /S *.PST >PST_SEARCH.TXT
The command completed checking all the folders and it then
provided a .txt file found in the C Drive with the filename
PST_SEARCH. This will will provided me all the folders that contains
a PST file.
2. I then opened the File and located the current location of the PST
File, which for some reason got moved to a different location.
3. Once I located where the PST file was, I just then needed to add
the location of the file in here:
a. File > Account Settings > Account Settings
b. Click on the Email Tab
2. c. Click on the ADD button
d. Go to the location of the PST file
e. Click on OK
f. Highlight the newly added PST file, then click on SET AS
DEFAULT button.
4. I then tried opening Outlook again.
Outlook opened just fine after executing all these steps. But then I
noticed that there was an error at the bottom part of Outlook.
I then tried to send a test message and got the error 0x8004010F.
Error 0x8004010F basically means that Outlook is not able to
properly read the PST file, in other words the file itself is corrupted.
So how did I go about fixing the problem?
Fixing Error 0x8004010F
1. File > Account Settings > Account Settings
2. Clicked on CHANGE FOLDER at the bottom of the Account
Settings box.
3. Clicked NEW OUTLOOK DATA FILE
4. Provided a new name; which you can choose your own (in my
case I typed the email address)
5. Expanded the folder by clicking on the + sign, then click on
INBOX (this will be the default folder where the messages will be
coming in.
6. Clicked on CHANGE FOLDER again
7. Chose the newly created PST File and selected INBOX.
8. Clicked on the EMAIL tab and removed the faulty PST file
I then went back to the landing page of Outlook then tried sending
a test message. After doing all these steps, customer is now able to
send and receive messages.
3. Quite a stressful issue that I encountered there. What made it more
difficult was that every messages on the customer's computer are
all in DUTCH. So what I did is I just remembered the arrangements
of the messages. But there are really times when I ask my customer
to translate the message for me.
All in all, this particular issue inspired me to write this post as there
are a lot of people out there who are the same kind of problem.
Hope you find this post useful. Stay tuned for future postings about
interesting day-to-day issues with your Windows and Microsoft
Office.
Cheers!
