Diet soda may be addictive due to its sweet taste without calories triggering dopamine release in the brain's reward center. While diet soda contains no calories, regular consumption has been linked to increased risks of weight gain, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke. Further research is still needed, but diet soda's sweet taste can create a cycle of craving and consumption that is difficult for some people to break.
