1. Sharing the Planet
Over the coming weeks students will be looking into Sharing the Planet. This unit is
an inquiry into the importance of plant life to humans and animals. During this unit,
students will inquire into; Plants as an essential resource and the concept of
fairness in relationship to sharing this resource between humans and animals.
Central Idea Plants, as a natural resource, play a central role in human and animal life
Key Concepts Perspective: The importance of plants to animals and humans.
Causation: The relationship between animals, plants and humans.
Responsibility: Our responsibility towards the sharing of plant life with ani-
mals.
Lines of Inquiry Plants as an essential resource for humans and animals
The relationship between plants, animals and humans
Sustaining plant life in the environment
Transdisciplinary Thinking skills: Dialectical thought, acquisition, analysis
Skills Research skills: Formulating questions

soned decisions.

2. Please find below outlines of how Language Arts and
Mathematics are integrated with our unit which, will be
taught in conjunction with our on going mathematics
and literacy programs.
Language Arts
Transdisciplinary Speaking and Listening: Students will use language to express their ideas and
feelings. They will begin to organise their thoughts before speaking to argue
a point of view.
Reading: Students will continue to read a range of fiction and non fiction
books for interest, pleasure and information. The focus will be on poetry.
Writing: Students will focus on poetry during this unit. They will identify the
structure and language used in different poems as well as writing their own
poems. The poetry unit will be taught with Ms Jennifer from the library.
