Borax and Arthritis advice

Dear Duncan, With regards to the letter: “Borax Supply and Usage” (Nexus vol20.No1.), I offer the
following observation to clear up any possible misunderstandings.
Borax is a chemical compound, with a molecular formula Na2B4O710H2O and a molecular weight of
381, which contains about 9.0 % elemental Boron and as you can see, 10 molecules of water as “water
of crystallisation”. Unless some of the water is removed by the packers with heat, the normal Borax as
available from supermarkets and fertiliser outlets will adhere to the above formula.
In the second paragraph of this letter, the author states that, Harper’s Borax is 99% pure and one could
extrapolate this to pretty well all other brands, perhaps to the exclusion of brands of Chinese origin.
However in paragraph 6,when talking about dissolving Borax in water, he makes the incredible claim,
that, because the powder contains only 11.3% Boron, the rest of the substance is “harmless carrier
powder”. Borax is an inorganic chemical, which is 99% pure, so at best there could be only 1% of
other substances in it. “The harmless carrier powder”, that G. M. is so innocently discarding, is simply
undissolved Borax.
It is really interesting to see, that even though his wife is taking a considerably weaker solution of
Borax, than she touhgt, it is still effective.
It is a fact, that Borax is difficult to dissolve in water. Adding sugar to water increases the uptake of
Borax. A simple method of dissolving all the heaped teaspoon of Borax in one litre of water is to add
the Borax and stir vigorously for a reasonable time and then add a teaspoon of sugar and continue
stirring. Add more sugar until the Borax is all dissolved. IF one does not wish to use sugar, simply use
the weaker solution, but do not throw away perfectly good Borax left at the bottom of the container.
Boron is an essential element of human nutrition, which is critical deficient in our normal food supply.
But do not wait until you are crippled with arthritis, before using it. Start right away and never get
arthritis.
