• Gum, in some form, has been chewed as far
back as prehistoric times.
• Ancient Greeks, Mayans, and Native
Americans all chewed their own forms of gum.
• Between the late 1840’s and the 1920’s, gum
became what it is today.

3. Tragic Present2
• Gum is non-biodegradable.
• Gum has become an environmental issue in
terms of littering.
• Has been banned by Singapore because of this
issue.
• Cities all across the U.S. are at a loss on how
to deal with chewing gum on
sidewalks, streets, and park fixtures.
