Tips on how to travel safely in egypt
1. Tips on How To Travel Safely in Egypt?
Safety is one of the most important aspects that we have to consider seriously in our
everyday life especially during vacations. It doesn’t matter where we are; still, we have
to always put our safety as priorities in life. However, each place has its own
specific safety guidelines including Egypt. So for those who are planning to have some
thrilling and sensational memories during their visit to Egypt, here are some know-how-
tips on how to travel safely in Egypt so that you will have smooth and fun time journey
in that breathtaking historical country!
Passport or Any IDs
It’s really important to always have your passports or any related IDs with you anywhere
and anytime. We don’t really know what will happen in future. Probably they will just
randomly ask to look for your IDs just to make sure where do you come from. However,
2. beware of those swindlers who are trying to trick you in order to steal your passports!
I’m not trying to freak you out. I’m pretty sure all countries have swindlers here and
there. We just have to be extra careful!
Money and Other Precious Belongings
Always make sure to keep your money and other valuable belongings such as cell
phones, cameras, iPods, laptops and others in your safe spots. Keep your bag close
and if possible, always check whether your belongings are still there or not. Not to be
forgotten, keep away from counting your money or holding your phone or other
important possessions in public especially in crowded areas. Additionally, always walk
in groups so that you will not have to deal with any unfortunate events alone. After all, a
group of people are stronger than a single person!
Travel in Groups Instead of Hire a Car to Travel Alone
If you are planning on travelling from one place to another by self- driving here in Egypt,
sorry to disappoint you but I’m afraid you have to ditch out that plan. Traffics and cars
here are not like other countries especially the European countries. Most of the roads
especially those in the small towns, suburban and villages don’t have lines to distinguish
the roads or traffic light to tell you whether to stop or not. So, in order for you not to get
traumatize especially if this is the first time you travel in Egypt, make plans on
travelling by buses, vans, trucks or cars in convoys. This is because it’s always safer
and more exciting to travel in groups or in convoys rather than traveling by yourself. In
addition, before you agree to travel in any vehicles, ALWAYS ask for the price first. You
don’t want to end up paying more than you should have to. Sometimes some of them
will trick visitors to pay more!
3. Learn to Speak Basic Egyptian Language
You should know quite well that not everyone in Egypt can speak English; probably
some of them but not all. So make sure before you get on the flight you already prepare
a few simple and basic words of Ammiyah which is the Egyptian language. For
example, ‘ Bikam? to ask for price, ‘ Lau Samah ’ for excuse me and other simple
vocabularies. This will make it easier for you to deal with the local people in Egypt.
Safety Tips for Female Visitors
These are some few important advices and guidelines for women who are planning to
travel alone. This is because; theoretically women are always being seen as soft
targets. So, in order to protect yourself, first, if possible, try to get woman tour guide
rather than man. After all, you will feel more secure and comfortable traveling with your
own sexual category rather than with the opposite sex. Furthermore, always remember
that NEVER wear revealing clothes such as mini skirt, shorts, hot pants, sleeveless
tops, too tight clothes and short dresses. Dress appropriately and decently to respect
their local culture and in the same time you also can secure yourself from bad things to
happen.
Trust me; you don’t need to wear sexy clothes in Egypt because there is no one who
you want to impress there! Other than that, don’t ever walk alone at night or passing by
quiet streets all by yourself. You never know what waits in front of you. Therefore, try to
walk and travel in groups of people whenever and where ever you go. Moreover, try
your best to avoid any eye or body contacts with male strangers. If someone, especially
guys are trying to initiate conversations with you, answer it shortly and try to leave that
person as soon as you can and always remember to NEVER accept any invitations to
follow them anywhere. Last but not least, when you are travel inside public transports
like bus or train, always make effort to sit beside any women, children or person with
families. After all, prevention is always better than cure!
