2. Who we are
Studio Three Architects is an award winning RIBA Chartered
Practice based in the Ropewalks area of Liverpool. We’re an
eclectic bunch of architects and designers brought together
by shared ideals and complementary talents.
What we do
Since 2003 we have been delivering exciting but practical
projects, always springing from our careful analysis of the
brief and site. We don’t specialise in a particular sector of
architecture, but we don’t take on work that doesn’t provide
a design or intellectual challenge. We are not normally the
cheapest but we always demonstrate our added value – just
ask our clients!
Why we do it
We are not driven by profit, but a genuine desire to contribute
to the built environment in a positive way. We believe that
good design does not have to cost more money – it should
save precious space and resources. We also believe that good
design is not really about winning awards, it’s about enhancing
quality of life – either for a day or a lifetime. We prefer client
accolades to those of the press.
4. PROJECT
CHAVASSE PARK PAVILION, LIVERPOOL
CLIENT
GROSVENOR
VALUE
£ 1.2 M
The form of this building originates from folding and
cutting two identically sized rectangles along view lines to
key buildings in Liverpool.
The black stained Oak “ground rectangle” works
alongside the stainless steel “roof rectangle” to generate
a dramatic and dynamic form within this new public park.
A simple glazed enclosure provides the internal space for
a coffee shop or drinks unit, with large decking areas at
each elevation to maximise the outdoor experience.
The project took only twelve months from commission
to completion.
6. PROJECT
ST. FRIDESWYDE’S CHURCH &
COMMUNITY BUILDING
CLIENT
ST. FRIDESWYDE’S PCC
VALUE
£ 700,000
In the suburbs of North Liverpool, Studio Three won
the unique opportunity to design a new church for St
Frideswydes of Thornton.
The design has been structured around 3 distinct
elements which have 3 distinct uses: Chapel, Community
/ Cafe space and the Service / Amenity spine.
The design has been developed to create a marker
building in a traditionally suburban context and form a
modern approach to worship in a changing society.
This project is currently under going final discussions
with the PCC and the Diocese before proceeding to
planning.
8. PROJECT
CHESTER CATHEDRAL ENTRANCE &
SIGNAGE
CLIENT
CHESTER CATHEDRAL
At the end of September 2008 Studio Three were
approached by Chester Cathedral to develop a phased
signage solution internally and externally. In conjunction
with the signage project, a new welcome desk was
designed to act as a single piece of furniture providing
visitors with an obvious reception point.
12. PROJECT
FOOD HUB, ST ANSELM’S COLLEGE,
BIRKENHEAD
CLIENT
ST ANSELM’S COLLEGE
VALUE
£ 350,000
The Food Hub is a self contained food technology block
set within the grounds of St Anselm’s College Birkenhead.
The brief was to design a building that could serve the
needs of the new curriculum within a stand alone unique
structure. The building had to house two main teaching
spaces; a practical food area and a design space alongside
preparation areas and storage spaces.
The key concepts employed within this scheme were
arrived at through rigorous analysis of the site and the
client’s requirements to generate a wholly site specific
design proposal. The students were actively involved
throughout the design process and all of their enthusiasm
and aspirations have been realised in the Food Hub.
14. PROJECT
12 PROJECTS
CLIENT
THE UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL
VALUE
£ 50,000 - £ 350,000
Studio Three have completed a number of projects
for the University of Liverpool ranging in size and
complexity.
These include solving difficult access issues (in light
of DDA legislation) and improving entrance spaces
on limited budgets. Studio Three were recently asked
to undertake a feasibility study to create a new Colic
Reserch Centre at the Leahurst campus and to design an
entrance space for the Foundation Building.
16. PROJECT
ZECOSPA CARBON NEUTRAL HOUSING
COMMUNITY, SPA IRELAND
CLIENT
PRIVATE CLIENT
VALUE
£ 2.0 M
Situated on the West Coast of Ireland, this highly
contemporary residential scheme incorporates key
sustainable technologies to achieve a carbon-neutral
status.
A community of large homes and work units has
been designed around a communal courtyard. The
design for the houses was generated by analysing and
interpreting the local vernacular to provide a refreshing
and contemporary change to the local strict planning
guidelines.
Each house integrates with the landscape in a unique
way and is orientated toward key views.
18. PROJECT
BREWERY WHARF, LEEDS
CLIENT
MPG
VALUE
£ 950,000
Forming the new headquarters for this successful
property developer, this fit-out scheme developed into a
“total architecture” solution.
A high-quality high-impact solution was required and has
been delivered to a level that far exceeded the initial
expectations of the client.
Every aspect was bespoke and designed and co-ordinated
by Studio Three: from the technology laden board rooms
to the highly crafted new staircase, the attention to detail
was critical to the successful delivery of this complex
project within very tight timescales.

22. PROJECT
THE NINEVEH ROOMS, SANDON HALL
CLIENT
THE EARL OF HARROWBY / S.H.A.P.E
VALUE
£ 400,000
Following the success of the wedding, entertainment
and corporate facilities at Sandon Hall in the heart of
the Staffordshire countryside, a new wing was added to
incorporate an intimate bar area and fully accessible core
facilities.
Studio Three worked in close collaboration with English
Heritage to ensure that the proposals sat sensitively with
the 19th Century Hall. The result is a curved sandstone
annexe nestled within the landscape. This project
combines Architecture, Interior Design and bespoke
Furniture Design.
