Lightening our Impact on the Land
Finding property zoned for an auto repair facility near town
wasn’t an easy task. When we finally found a site, we had
to come to terms with the fact that most of the trees on the
site would have to be cut down. To lighten our impact we:
Walked site with COB Environmental Planner
Linda Thompson to determine if specific trees
needed to be preserved.
With the help of Linda Thompson, we
hosted the 1 st local Plant Rescue at a
business construction site. Over a dozen
people attended the rescue, digging up
plants & trees for relocation to other homes.

Architectural drawing of South elevation of new building The south (back) side of the building will face Tapp Road. There will be four solar PV awnings , each spanning a set of overhead doors. The PV panels are bi-facial , catching the sunlight reflected off the doors as well as from above, for the generation of electricity.

Public Education Goals
Share our building experience with others to encourage the greening of the small business community.
Offer tours of new WWAS facility to schools, groups & in conjunction with green build seminars & workshops.
Record the process of building a green facility on video and in still pictures for use in creating presentations, web pages and written work.
Produce press releases to local, state and national media sources touching on the fact that green design is possible for small business projects.
