2. With so many things to consider when you’re moving, it can be easy
to get into the frame of mind that a mover is a mover and just hire
the ones with the lowest prices.
Anyone who has gone the cheap route before knows just how
problematic it can be. Much of the time, cheap movers mean low
quality movers and low quality isn’t something you can afford when
all your possessions are being moved.
To make sure your movers are up to par, ask these important
questions before you sign on.
3. How Long Have You Been In
Business?
Questions about experience are always wise to ask. Firstly, movers
who have been in business for a number of years are obviously doing
something right and secondly more experience generally means
greater expertise and a smoother moving process.
Also, ask about relevant experience so you know they can do the
exact type of move that you require, whether it is home, office or
something else.
4. Do You Have References?
A professional, experienced moving company should have no issue
providing you with references from some former customers. That
way, you can ask people just like you who have used these movers all
the questions you like.
If the movers don’t want to allow you to speak with past customers,
take it as a sign that they have something to hide and go find another
company.
5. What Do You Consider Extra?
Sometimes, it isn’t until the move is completed that you find out
you owe money for ‘extra services’ you didn’t even know existed.
Find out what their version of ‘extra charges’ entails and how much
they charge for each one.
6. Do You Provide Free Estimates?
With many movers out there all competing for customers, the
answer to this question should be a definite ‘yes’ but ask anyway. If
it doesn’t say so on their website, it only takes a second to ask, and
you may end up saving yourself some money.
If a moving company is confident in their abilities and their business,
they will provide you with a free estimate to consider.
7. Do You Offer Guarantees?
In all likelihood, your moving day is based around a pretty tight
schedule. You must be out of your place on a certain day and you
want to be in your new place on a certain day.
Ask if the movers offer guarantees for the pick up and delivery of
your possessions. Also, ask what the protocol is if they miss one or
both of those things.
8. What are the Details?
To give you a clear indication of how things will go on moving day,
ask questions like:
do you provide boxes, if necessary?
do you have a packing service?
how many movers will you be using for my move?
what time will you show up?
is there anything I need to do to help?
9. What About Liability?
Since they are just humans like the rest of us, sometimes movers
slip, misjudge, drop things and damage your stuff.
Ask what kind of liability coverage the company provides, just in
case they have a mishap somewhere along the way. Things will
probably work out fine, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
