1. Reflection: Vocabulary connections: multi-word items in English.
Throughout the following reflection, looking at vocabulary, it is common objective
to focus on second language learning. There is a wide variety of resources where language
students can look for new words and terms to increase their own vocabulary. Another way
to successfully acquire more words is using dictionaries, these language tools helps to
reinforce the lack of terminology that a student may have by representing the lexicon as a
sequence of headwords or individual lexical items.
The text relates to the class objective for it helps us to comprehend and
understand an important part of the whole knowledge we have to acquire in order to
become proficient English language speakers. Another reason why this text represents a
helpful material to learn more is because explains the rules of the multi-word items, that
sometime may be difficult to understand. The chapter takes into account the lexical
connections between words in the English language, particularly multi-word lexical items.
On the other hand the text also consider some problems that a teacher might face while
teaching English as a second language regarding vocabulary, specially multi-word items.
To conclude this reflection; second language students must learn the different
theories and knowledge that the text offers, since it’s a great way to foster the
development of new ways to increment the vocabulary and to understand how to learn it.
Moreover, the different classifications that the text contains can be tremendously
important in terms of teaching the language; thus, not only can the text help students to
understand better the English language, but also can be a useful material to be use by
teachers of a second language.
