2. What is a Gastric Band?
• A gastric band is a round piece of silicon that is placed around the top of the
stomach during surgery to prevent a person from eating too much.
• Gastric Band surgery is invasive and expensive and does not deal with emotional
eating.

3. Gastric Band Failure Rates
• What the doctors and private clinics do not tell you is that there can be serious
issues associated with Gastric Band Surgery.
• 317 gastric band patients were studied over a ten year period.
• 33% of those suffered complications with their band.
• 21.7% of those need a major reoperations
• The band had a 40% failure rate over a five year period.
• The study concluded that the failure rate increased over time and that this
operation should no longer be used for weight loss.Yet more operations than ever
before are being carried out.

4. Why is Gastric Band Hypnotherapy
Different?
• We do not use risky surgery.
• We are much less expensive.
• We aim to tackle why a person is overeating through hypnosis, CBT and
mindfulness.

5. Session One
• As with any therapy session we start by taking an assessment.We do not talk to
you just about food choices but also issues such as anxiety, depression, fears and
phobias as well as any medical issues.
• Eating problems can be created by these emotions and this assessment helps your
therapist to get an overview of the issues involved.
• When we have all the information we need we will conduct a short session of
suggestion hypnosis.
• This first gastric band hypnotherapy session will give suggestions that your
stomach is getting smaller and tighter in size.

6. SessionTwo &Three
• Following your first session you are given an audio to listen to every day before
your next session.This helps you to enter a state of self hypnosis at home.
• When you arrive for your second session you will find you are more relaxed.This is
when we start analytical hypnosis to understand why the problem may be there.
This will be an interactive session of questions and answers.

7. FindingThe Emotional Link
• When you are more relaxed it becomes easier for your subconscious to
communicate with you.
• In simple terms you are able to remember events which previously you may have
forgotten which started off the overeating behaviour.
• When we understand the reason for the overeating we can find methods and
coping mechanisms to change the unhelpful behaviour.
• It also means that hypnotic suggestions are better targeted to the exact problem
rather than second guessing.

8. Session Four
• If everything is going to plan a client should now be losing weight slowly and steadily.That
means no more than two pounds a week.
• We now conduct a virtual operation under hypnosis to trick the subconscious into believing
it is being fitted with a gastric band.
• Please note it is the combination of therapy and the virtual operation that makes a
difference. Doing one without the other is unlikely to get such good results.

9. Final and Follow up Session
• At the final session we assess how well our clients are doing.
• If we feel that there are still unresolved issues they are tackled in this session.
• We may also “tighten the band” during a virtual outpatients procedure.
• Our clients are invited to continue corresponding with us whilst they lose weight
so we can keep them on track.
