Emmanuel Production Roles

1. PRODUCTION ROLES
Producer
The producerinitiates,coordinates,supervises,andcontrolsmatterssuchasraisingfunding,hiring
keymembersof the crew,contractingand arrangingfordistributors.The producerisinvolved
throughoutall phasesof the processfromdevelopmenttocompletionof aproject. Simone would
take on thisrole and helpthe director(Emmanuel) togetthe filminthe rightperspective.
Director
The directoris responsible foroverseeingthe creativeaspectsof afilm, includingcontrollingthe
contentand flowof the film'splot,directingthe performancesof actors,selectingthe locationsin
whichthe filmwill be shot,managingtechnicaldetailssuchasthe positioningof cameras,the use of
lightingetc. Thiswouldbe takenbyEmmanuel because he’sthe bestwithplanningcamerashots
and layingthemout,sohe wouldbe able tohave a good image inhisheadaboutthe film.
Cameraman
The camera operatoroperatesthe cameraunderthe directionthe filmdirector,tocapture the
scenesonfilm.Dependingonthe cameraformatbeingusedforfilming(egfilmordigital),adirector
of photographymaynotoperate the camera,but sometimesthese tworolesare combined. This
wouldalsobe takenon byEmmanuel because he hasthe ‘steadyhand’forsome camera shots.
Screenwriter
Screenwritersorscriptwritersare responsibleforresearchingthe story,developingthe narrative,
writingthe screenplay,anddeliveringit,inthe requiredformat,tothe Producers.Theyare almost
alwaysfreelancerswhoeitherpitchoriginal ideastoProducersinthe hope thattheywill be putin,
or whoare commissionedbyaProducertocreate a screenplayfromaconcept,true story,existing
screenworkor literarywork,suchas a novel or shortstory. This would be done bybothof us
(Emmanuel andSimone) because we wouldneedtobothagree onwhathappensinthe filmandalso
whatthe talentsay.
Editor
Editorsare one of the keyHeadsof Departmentonfeature films,responsibleforFirstAssistant
Editors,and on biggerproductions,SecondAssistantsandTrainees.The Editorworkscloselywith
the Director,craftingthe dailyrushesintoa whole.Toensure thatthe storyflowseffortlesslyfrom
beginningtoend,eachshotiscarefullychosenandeditedintoaseriesof scenes,whichare inturn
assembledtocreate the finishedfilm. Thisrole wouldbe takenonbyEmmanuel because he hasthe
more creative skillsettowardsfilm.He alsohasmore experience.
Sound Recordists

2. SoundRecordists(alsoknownasProductionMixers) recordsoundonlocationorina studio,usually
insynchronisationwiththe camera,toenable the highestquality'real'soundtobe recordedatthe
time of filming. Theymonitorthe qualityof the soundrecordingthroughheadphonesandwork
closelywiththe Director, BoomOperatorandsometimesthe SoundEditor,oftenusingmultiple
microphones.Thiswouldbe takenonbybothof us because we wouldregularlybe switchingrolesto
make sure the soundis relativelythe same throughoutthe filmmakingprocess.
