8.6% of Ecuadorian children between ages 5-17, approximately 360,000, worked in 2012 according to a national survey, with many starting as young as age 5 and working 14 hours per week. The provinces of Cotopaxi, Bolívar, and Chimborazo had the highest rates of child labor. The goal is to prevent dangerous child labor through policies and programs that uphold children's rights to education and happiness.
