1. Every Promise is a challenge that presents an obstacle to be overcome. Think of Abram that received a great promise but that had to overcome the challenge of his own inadequacy. His faith had to rise to the level of the Promise. God’s Word is often a challenge before us that we have to rise to. Like Israel that was a vagabond people had to rise to receive God’s word and become a nation that possessed Canaan we often have to rise to achieve the promises of God for us.To live our lives must take faith, we must always be going forward, moving up upward, forgetting what is behind straining for what lies ahead (Phil 3:13)
2. “Moses my servant is dead” was like a newspaper headline written in the hardest radical in Aramaic. It is a shout declared with the highest level of emotion. Upon Moses' death, the children of Israel wept for an entire month on the plains of Moab (Deut. 34:8). The record says regarding Moses, "Since then no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses" (Deut 34:10). Yet, God's cause did not stop upon the death of Moses. It is amazing how people can rail against a leader while they are alive and revere them upon their death (Margaret Thatcher)
3. God’s work is bigger than any man. The man who thinks that God's cause will die without his presence has an arrogant, conceited attitude toward himself. He is thinking more highly of himself than he ought to think. There are none of us who are indispensable. Though we will miss the sage advice and the brave leadership of those who have passed on, we recognize that the cause of Christ must continue undaunted.God sometimes initiates radical change. a Changeless God is always working change in me! God is always on the move, progressively unfolding His purposes and plans, readjusting our structures and renewing our thinking. There has to come an acceptance of the fact that change does not mean subtraction, but rather increased possibilities!With five simple words, “Moses, My servant is dead”, the entire direction and faith of Israel took a quantum shift. God had initiated transition! The children of Israel were released to move into new worlds of promise and possibilities. I believe we are hearing an invitation by the voice of God to new worlds! Places of fresh revelation and anointing. Days of opportunity and breakout! To go there we must realize that change is inevitable. We are not originators, but rather responders and how we respond will determine our future impact and destiny. The pathway to fulfilment and fruitfulness demands that we be willing to give up where we are and who we are at this present moment in order to become and possess what we were destined for. The nation could not go where Moses couldn’t take them. As long as Moses was alive, the children of Israel could not enter the promise land. The Lord had told Moses that because of his disobedience in striking the rock instead of speaking to the rock in the wilderness, that he would be permitted to view the land, but not walk in it. Because of spiritual principle and protocol, the people could not go where the leadership could not take them. That is why Moses had to be removed! 4. The Joshua Generation was the generation that believed, they were not disqualified by their previous unbelief but had hearts and attitude that were ready to go on. They were ready to be change agents to tackle the unknown and to overcome the obstacles to lay hold of the promise. They were not longing back to the fleshpots of Egypt but looking forward to the Grapes of Canaan. They had a sense of future of hope of building a new nation and a new kingdom. They were ready to trade in their life on the road for a life of possessing the land, they wanted an address a place where they could live out their worship of God. Are you a Moses generation or a Joshua generation, are you longing back or looking forward are you ready for conquering and possessing the land?We go He gives. We cannot possess by proxy or from a distance, we have to go. We have to walk the land and take it, it’s not going to fall into our laps we have to go and cover every inch of it and chase out every enemy from his hiding place. But as we go He gives!! He will deliver into our hands the enemy that we cannot overcome.
