Sonipat Property Price Hike Soon
Sonipat (founded as Swarnaprastha) is a town and a Municipal Council in Haryana state of India. It comes under
the National Capital Region and is around 20 km from Delhi. The Yamuna River runs along the eastern boundary.
On 22 December 1972, Sonipat was carved out of Rohtak and made a full-fledged district. Members of the HUDA
Employees Welfare Organization are up in arms over the body's decision to affect a sudden and massive increase
in the construction cost of multi-storey apartments in Sector 12, and Kundli Sonepat.
The increase in cost is on the account of construction of basement, change in specifications, variation in super area
of flats and increase in the rates of steel and cement. In fact, several members are planning to approach the HUDA
chief administrator, who is the president of the managing committee of HEWO, seeking an inquiry into the
escalation of construction cost.
We have been told to deposit an amount of Rs. 14.04 Lakh in three monthly installments of Rs. 4.68 lakh each by
November 2013. It is quite unfair to seek such a huge sum in such a short span of time,” said a member who has a
utility category flat in the Sonepat group housing scheme. Several members, mostly employees of HUDA and the
urban estate department told Hindustan Times that it was unfair on part of the HEWO to put such a huge and
sudden financial burden on salaried persons.
The fresh installments should have been adequately interspersed. Moreover, the members were not apprised of
the proposed price escalation by the HEWO. The issue of construction of basement for Sector 12 Sonepat group
housing society was not brought to the notice of the members earlier,” said an HEWO member requesting
anonymity. As per a July 31 communication issued to members by SC Kansal, HEWO managing director and chief
controller of finance (CCF), HUDA, the cost of construction of a utility category flat in Sector 12 group housing
scheme has been increased by Rs. 14.04 Lakh, while the increase for a super deluxe category flat is Rs. 14.32 Lakh.
The revision will mean that HEWO employees will pay Rs. 43.97 Lakh for the utility category flat and Rs. 52.46 Lakh
for super deluxe category apartment.
Of the freshly escalated amount dished out to the members, the cost component for basement accounts for the
major share,” HEWO members said. Kansal did not respond to repeated short text messages send to him on
