founded in1892, is one
of the oldest construction
companies in the nation.

Founder John Patrick Cullen was an Irish descendant who gave birth to
our standard of pride and workmanship. His work ethic was renowned as
he once rode a bicycle 50 miles—from Janesville to Mt. Horeb—to inspect
a job under construction.
Son Mark A. Cullen joined J. P. in 1919 and together they guided the company
through a period of aggressive growth during the 1920s in Wisconsin, Illinois,
Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota. A significant early industrial client was
Samson Tractor Company, which later became the huge General Motors Complex
in Janesville, Wisconsin.
The Cullens worked hard to survive the Great Depression. In 1933, the company
completed construction of a 13-story Federal Office Building in Omaha, Nebraska.
During World War II, the firm won numerous military contracts.
In the early 1960s Mark’s son, a third generation J. Paul Cullen, became President.
He kept the company prospering despite recessions and a fluctuating economy.
The company expanded its client base and project portfolio.
In 1980, J. P.’s eldest son, Mark, assumed the presidency. His brothers, David and
Richard, became Vice President and Vice President of Field Operation, respectively.
Today, Mark is Board Chairman, David is CEO and President, and Richard remains
Vice President of Field Operations. With annual revenue in excess of $240 million,
J. P. Cullen & Sons continues to grow in scope, volume and reputation.
