You can perform a search of the

(Ex:) You can type in Harrison’s

10. Benefits of a MyAccess account:
•Access to the app
•Access to the Q&A feature and prior quiz result scores.
•Notification of new content and new editions of interest to you via the Alerts
feature.
•Save and download image capability, including the ability to download images
directly to PowerPoint.
11. Electronic Journal Finder
eJournal Finder is where you would go if you know the name of the journal
you are interested in accessing or if you are interested in finding out if we
have full text electronic access to a particular journal.
eJournals
12. Ex: NEJM or N Engl J Med will still find it
**Journal Finder is pretty good about
locating titles using the acronym.
13. Because we get license the content
from the publisher we get to take
advantage of the other features on the
site such as the Videos, Interactive
Medical Cases and Audio Summaries
etc.
14. • There are 3 options available:
– Quick Search - main PubMed search screen
– Journals (which you can use to look up full journal titles/acronyms)
– MeSH – Search for Medical Subject Headings
PubMed
16. Sample Search to find full text of article:
Preventing Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device
Infections.
17. You should get a list of possible matches, click
on the article title to open the whole record to
get the FindIt button.
18. **The Full text links provided by the Publisher
are deceptive and you will experience varying
degrees of success
19. Journal Finder - will let you know if we
subscribe to that journal electronically
in any of our databases.
20. After each database name, note the date range!
This will determine which of these databases will
have the specific article you need.
21. You can try to find the article yourself based
on the original citation from PubMed, but I
sometimes find it easier (especially when the
article is ePub ahead of print) to search the
database for the title.
22. Sometimes, ClinicalKey requires you to create a personal account to access
certain content but this time, I was able to just click on the PDF and it
automatically downloaded the PDF
23. • Now lets do that again, and pretend that the
article was NOT available electronically using
the Find It button OR the eJournal Finder
27. If we do not have it
electronically –
Skip to ILL to request it.
28. Previously InterLibrary Loan accounts ware not automatically created for
Clinical Affiliates.
If you are interested in using this service, you will need to contact the
ILL/DocDel office to request that an ILL account be created by phone 954-
262-3120 or by email illhpd@nova.edu

Editor's Notes
Before I start - I want to let you know where you can find a copy of this presentation so you don’t have to worry about writing down everything and remembering everything. From the HPD Library Homepage which is www.nova.edu/hpdlibrary. All of the resources I will speak about today can be found on this homepage and from the Library website for Osteopathic Medicine
On the tabs you should see a page for [Clinical Affiliates - Residency/Clerkship]And if you click on that tab, you should see a page I created for you which contains, quick links to popular Journals and databases as well as all of the instructions for the mobile apps you have access to via the Library. My contact information is on that homepage to, so of you ever need to get in touch with me, all of my info is right there under my glamour shot. Since it happens to be right on the screen, I would also like to point out the Database Chart. I created it after getting many questions about which databases have…calculators, guidelines, multimedia
During this presentation I am going to take you on a tour of the HPD Library homepage and identify what resources we have and where to find them.
Our homepage is (again) www.nova.edu/hpdlibrary and I recommend you bookmark the page for future reference.
I know all of you know how to search a Library catalog, but I wanted to point out that a majority of our collection is electronic. There are collections of eBooks in several difference databases, however you should be able to find out of we have a book, in print or electronic regardless of the database it is located in. You can perform a search of the Library catalog using the search widget on the homepage. A very popular resource is Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine so I will use that as my sample search.
(Ex:) You can type “Harrison’s Principles” into the search box. The default search is for the keyword, but since you know the title, I recommend you using the drop down menu and changing the field to [Title]
In the results list you will see the icon in the right column which indicates that it is an eResource. You need to click on the title of the Resource to reveal the full catalog record, and that is where the hyperlink will be to access the resource.
You will notice in the record that this title is available in both Access Medicine and Access Pharmacy. You can click on either link to access the content of the book, however please realize that you will be entering different databases (or collections of materials) so depending on the database you click on, you will see more books on those subjects. (EX) Access Pharmacy will have a number of Pharmacy titles while Access Medicine will have more medical titles.
Before you access any of the eResources you will need to authenticate. Because these are paid databases, they basically want to know who is paying for your access, so that is what the authentication does. It identifies that you have access via the NSU subscription
You are now into what is essentially a table of contents of the book. If any of you have read an ebook before like on a personal device such as your Kindle, Nook or iBooks, you notice it does not look the same. That is because this ebook is just one of many ebooks that are in the Access Medicine collection. In addition to the text and images it also has additional “bonus” material such as Interactive Self Assessment and any multimedia/videos that accompany the book. You can also use the Search box to search for a specific topic in the book.
For some of the “Premium” features of Access Medicine you need to create your own personal account. It is FREE, but it will allow you to take the assessments as well as save and download images directly to Powerpoint.
eJournal Finder is where you would go if you know the name of the journal you are interested in accessing or if you are interested in finding out if we have full text electronic access to a particular journal.
Ex: nejm or N Engl J Med will still find it
**Journal Finder is pretty good about locating titles using the acronym. If you get no results and you are using an acronym, redo the search by spelling out the abbreviated words.
Here is the result from our Ejounral finder. It is a list of all of the databases that we subscribe to where we have the full text for some period of time.
Embargo: means that database will not allow access to the full text of that journal for this most recent period of time.
You may notice this database has the icons with words that say LAW. This is one of the only databases that is restricted to the LawSchool.
Finally you notice that the 1st option has the year you need, but it is also the publisher. This allows access to additional features of the journal rather than just the text that you would find in one of the 3rd party vendors.
There are 3 options available:
Quick Search - main PubMed search screen
Journals (which you can use to look up full journal titles/acronyms) amd allows you to limit your search to Journals referenced in the NCBI Databases
MeSH – Search for Medical Subject Headings
You should get a list of possible matches. PubMed will automatically put the one that it thinks matches most closely in a box at the top of the results. To get to the full text options click on the article title to open the whole record to see the FindIt button.
You can try to find the article yourself based on the original citation from PubMed, but I sometimes find it easier (especially when the article is ePub ahead of print) to search the database for the title.
Previously ILL accounts were not automatically created for Clinical Affiliates. If you are interested in using this service and you are unable to log-in, you will need to contact the ILL/DocDel office to request that an ILL account be created (or reinstated) by phone 954-262-3120 or by emailillhpd@nova.edu
When starting out, and way to broaden your ‘search net’ Searching Medline (the content that is in PubMed) using another interface. You can think of it as rather than going into the Apple store, where you will only find Apple products, if you went into Best Buy…you would see a little bit of everything!
There are 3 options available:
