2. The needs of individual survivors

 As important as community reconstruction is,
Seikeikai focuses on each individual survivor and
their concerns
 Seikeikai provides an opportunity for individual
survivors to voice their concerns and fears
 Seikeikai believes that helping individuals leads to
community building
Seikeikai provides an “attentive ear” to the
needs of survivors

3. Non-evacuated survivors are
survivors too 
 Seikeikai is a grassroots volunteer organization that
began by conducting visits to houses of non-
evacuated survivors
 We continue to treat all survivors in our community
as equal, whether or not they were evacuated
Seikeikai believes all Kesennuma community
members deserve help

4. Staying near our children and
family members 
 Many working mothers were unable to locate their
children during the hours and days after the disaster
 Survivors do not want their children to experience
such fear of separation any longer
 However, business opportunities in the
community remain scarce, with many businesses
still unable to function
Seikeikai provides business opportunities for
individuals who need to work from home

5. A proper salary:
Kesennuma Misanga (Bracelet) Project

 Sales result in direct support for individual
weavers
 All proceeds (minus the cost of materials) of each
bracelet go directly to the bracelet weaver
 Some weavers earn enough to support their families

6. Support beyond emergency
supplies 
 We are so grateful to have received emergency
supplies and support
 However, at the one-year mark and beyond, the
Kesennuma community needs the will to move
forward
 Survivors seek to better their lives, get back to
work, and become self-sufficient as the
community is rebuilt
