2. ACROSS THE HALL
This is the poster for the short film ‘Across the
Hall’. It appears to be professionally constructed.
Selective focus is used to clearly show the man
at the front of the shot to express the idea that
he is both watching the other man, and trying to
keep himself hidden. The use of tight framing
lets us clearly identify the man in the
background of the shot and also adds to the
tension because it creates a sense of
urgency, discomfort and imprisonment. Also the
use of low key lighting adds to this effect.
3. I’M HERE
‘I’m Here’ uses lighting to its advantage in this
shot to create a sense of romance/ neglect.
The colours/ tones used in this poster create a
calming feeling. The genre of this film is
inclusive of romance, tragedy and drama. The
body language used by the characters (heads
gloomily facing the ground) creates a sense of
sadness and isolation. The bold, large title of
the film placed centrally on the poster
reinforces the romantic theme. ‘I’m Here’
suggests that although they may feel isolated
from society they have each other.
4. GEORGE LUCAS IN LOVE
This film poster is a creation inspired by Star
Wars and continues this theme throughout the
film. The overall design of this poster is not
overly eye-catching. For example the dull
brown colour scheme makes the poster look
dated and rather boring. The credits at the
bottom of the poster are features to be
expected within a short film poster, so the
overall layout is good. A good point however, is
the size of the images. We can clearly identify
the characters which means that before the
film begins, we already know who the main
character is.
5. ‘ACROSS THE HALL’ POSTER COMPARISON
‘Across the Hall’ was firstly created as a short film. The
first image (top left) is the original film poster. It is
effective however a lot more basic than that of the
feature film. The full length film poster uses a more
professional approach to create a sense of drama such as
the contrasting colours black and orange.
The short film would not have had such a large budget
that the feature film had so they would have had to use
the resources they could afford. The overall idea is good
as it creates a sense of drama, however the audience is
limited. As we know, the feature film would be available
to watch nationally and would therefore have a much
larger audience, therefore the poster has to entice the
audience largely, for the film to make proffits.
6. ACROSS THE HALL FEATURE FILM POSTER
Woman in the middle- This image gives a sense that she is
the ‘damsel in distress’ because she is attractive and the only
woman shown on the poster. The use of the mobile phone as
a prop indicates the sense of urgency that she is in trouble/
danger.
Low key lighting- The use of low key lighting helps add the
tension. It gives the impression that there is an element of
danger within the narrative.
Title- The title is bold and stands out against the juxtaposing
dark background.
Police car- The image of a police car in the top left corner
gives the indication some of the characters will be put into
some sort of danger at one point and will need the help of
the police. It gives an indication without giving too much of
the storyline away to the audience.
Facial expression- The man on the left of the poster appears
to be distressed and shocked whereas the man on the right
looks to be angry/ worried. The fact that the woman is
displayed in between the two men indicates some sort of
love triangle.
