Heat stress is an increasing problem in cities. A model was used to study heat stress and potential solutions. Solutions proposed to reduce heat stress include using vegetation like green roofs, walls, and shade trees as well as incorporating more water features into urban design through ponds and swales. Case studies in Malmo, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark demonstrated how large-scale use of vegetation and water can help mitigate urban heat issues.
