2. Community
eBay is a dynamic community of sellers and buyers who
communicate, bid, and share their personal items with each other.
What makes eBay unique?
3. Design
Target
The behaviors and motivations that drive
community members are very different.
Our design focuses on the “Winner”, or
those “winner” moments of a user.
4. So we asked the question,
how does “The Winner”
eBay?
The Winner
Bargain-hunter
Uses filters to find lowest price
Enjoys the competition of shopping
5. This is how product search results
are shown today. eBay presents a
list of the items that most closely
match your search. But the variety
of listings can be confusing to the
winner whose main focus is getting
the best deal.

6. “I find myself clicking the Auctions only filter,
then looking at the number of auctions that
have bids placed on them over looking at the
actual coins themselves.”

“I have to scroll past so many coins all the
time and look for items that have bids placed
on them and the best possible way to find the
most that have bids on them are the last three
minutes of an auction.”
The Winner looks for two things
Auctions with bids
Ending soon
7. And that’s because...
Auctions with bids
Ending soon
Bids indicate an item is priced competitively.
Soon to end auctions reveal what price similar
items will go for.
8. What if we did the filtering for The Winner?
That way, they spend less time browsing, and more time bidding.
10. Emma just placed an order on eBay. On
the confirmation page, she sees the “Bid
Zone” for the first time.
Bid Zone
11. From the checkout page, Emma enters Bid
Zone to explore other items eBay has for
auction based on her past shopping
history.
Bid Zone
12. Emma notices that all the products
displayed on Bid Zone are ending in less
than 5 minutes and have at least one bid.
Bid Zone
13. To get more information and to bid on a
product, she switches to product view by
tapping the item.
Bid Zone
14. After being notified that she has been
outbid, Emma increases her bid from the
“Bids” page.
Bid Zone
15. Hurray! Emma won the auction! She sees a
notification on the top menu bar and visits
the “Wins” page to view her recently won
items.

16. Excited from discovering the Bid Zone, she
opens her Ebay app and decides to take a
look.
What will she find next...?

17. Users came to eBay not to explore items
they already are interested in, but to
discover exciting, always changing offers
personalized for them?
eBay’s extensive catalogue of auctions is
perfect for this market because new
deals are always being added.
With eBay Bid Zone, there’s always a
reason to log on.
What if...
19. For many, the most delightful part
of an online purchase is when the
package arrives.
Amazon’s smiling boxes with
branded tape are a welcome sight
on millions of doorsteps.
But an eBay package is even more a
reason to celebrate because it often
contains an item you won!
And the timing couldn’t be more
perfect. With eBay Valet, eBay is
able to personally design packages.
20. And that’s just the beginning. Item-specific
packaging is a fun way to get the customer
excited about their recent purchase.
21. eBay Flyer
eBay Valet also opens up the opportunity to
include targeted flyers within each package.
Depending on the audience, these flyers could be…

22. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/09/30/twitter-makes-buy-button-widely-available/?_r=0
As of last month, Twitter has made widely
available a “Buy” button.
Rather than supporting large retailers,
Twitter has partnered with Demandware,
Bigcommerce, and Shopfiy. All companies
that support smaller ecommerce retailers.
eBay’s mission to connect and empower
individual sellers would be a welcome
addition to Twitter’s partnerships.
*Youtube, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram are also experimenting with “Buy” buttons.

When viewing participating
products on Twitter, switch to

24. Budget Guidance
Birthdays, Christmas, Weddings. On
these occasions, we buy multiple
gifts for those we care about. But it
can be easy to overspend and lose
track of purchases. eBay budget
guidance allows users to make
unique shopping lists that alert the
user when they have spent more
than they planned.
