If you?ve ever balanced a laptop on your knee whilst working, you'll most likely have noticed that it
gets warm rather quickly. In fact, despite their name, modern laptops can get so warm that they are
more than a little uncomfortable to use on your lap. There are a number of reasons for this.
In the first place, the processors used in laptop computers have been getting increasingly powerful
for quite a while now. The laptops themselves have also tended to become physically larger.
Powerful processors generate heat, as do larger displays.
The second design issue is the fact that the fans in laptops will typically be smaller, and considerably

vents. The passive type of cooler has no fans. It simply provides a base for the laptop and allows air
to circulate freely around its base, where the cooling system intake vents are usually located. This
also prevents any heat being transmitted to your lap.
Both types will work, although more powerful laptops will benefit from fan assisted, active cooling

investment to keep your pricey hardware safe, not to mention your data.
