How to Troubleshoot Apps for the Modern Connected Worker
Lab 5
1. Burgled Bonuses <- your first lab link
1. What is the basic plot of this game?
The basic plot of this game is that there are six members in a logging team who were sent to look at some land their company has just purchased. The helicopter dropped off the last of the supplies that the logging team needed, with some beer and the payroll with cash bonuses. Later the next day foreman finds that his safe has been broken into and that the payroll and cash bonuses are missing.
2. At the beginning of the game, you are presented with information on the six suspects. Before going further into the game, who do you think took the bonuses based on the character information? Why?’
I think it might be Brain McIntyre or Amanda Lewis who took the bonuses based on the character information. I think this because both of them have or had not to recently financial problems.
3. What type of evidence is found at the crime scene? Does any of the evidence have individual characteristics?
There was blood evidence, bits of metal shaving pieces, the key to the door was missing, foot prints, and tool marks.
4. Based on the evidence, who do you think committed the crime? Were you right in your assessment?
I thought Joey and maybe Amanda committed the crime. I was partly right in my assessment it was Joey, but the other person was his girlfriend Miriam.
5. What did you find the most challenging aspect of this game? Why?
I think what I found most challenging was trying to figure out who was the other person who committed the crime. I think this because the evidence was pointing to a couple of people and the evidence got a bit confusing as to who it could have been. After all some of the evidence pointed to just the guys and while other pointed to a couple of people.
Package Bomb <- your second lab link
1. What type of switches were found in the bombs that exploded in Salt Lake City? How did they work?
Mercury switches, which acts as a simple on off control. When the mercury slides a certain way to the end to the wires it turns on and explodes.
2. What did the lines of explosion tell investigators?
The lines of the explosion told the investigators which way the so you could see which way the fragmentation flows.
3. What challenges do you think investigating bombs would have?
Well I think it would be challenging to have any individual characteristics evidence or for that matter much evidence at all to help you investigate bombs. After all it explodes so you have nothing really left.
Document Forging <- your third lab link
1. What type of forensic work does Flynn do? What types of crimes might he work on?
Flynn is a forensic document analyst. He works on crimes like check fraud, and bank robbery notes.
2. What are Flynn’s initial impressions about the documents in the Salt Lake City bombing case? Why does he think this?
His initial impressions were that the documents in the Salt Lake City bombings case looked real. He did carbon dating which proved that they were as old as they looked. To forge old paper and ink would be extremely hard to do.
3. What did Flynn discover after further analysis? How was this accomplished?
Later Flynn discovers that it is forged. He accomplished this by doing some tests on the paper, ink and handwriting. He realized that the criminal had checked out old books of about that time and he would cut out the fly leaf, which is a blank piece of paper. Then he would use that piece of paper. For the ink Flynn looked at the paper through ultraviolet and saw dark streaks on fluorescent paper. The criminal made his own ink by having books that talked about how to make it. Then he’d age the ink with sodium peroxide to make them look like old documents. Then Flynn makes the conclusion that the criminal actually wrote with a feather and made it into a pen like in the old days.
