2. THE PROBLEM…
We are living in the 21st
century and with the
advancement in technology we are slowly forgetting
about our tradition, culture and roots; more so in our
country India which is so diverse and filled with
tradition.
We felt the need to educate the people especially the
new generation; us children about our country and its
lush heritage. It is a very sorry state of affairs that we
Indians know more about other countries than we do
about our own. This is a major problem that needs to
be addressed.
3. The Preparation..
To solve this problem we first had to educate ourselves. Hence we
took the initiative to take part in various competitions concerned
with our culture. We managed to win some prizes but more
importantly we learnt a lot about our country which was unknown to
us previously. Some of the competition we attended were-
The Bharath Vikas Parishad Music Competition were there were many
teams competing in various categories such as Hindi song, Tamil song,
Sanskrit song and Folk song.
The Puranava Quiz held by GOD (Global Organisation for Divinity)
about the Indian Mythology.
The Madras Quotient Quiz and the Madras Day Celebrations held by
Intach which had different categories such as presentation & play.
Bharathanatyam competition the topic being Jayadeva’s Ashtapadi
held by the Modern School.
Various Sloka recitation competitions held by several organisations.
THIS WAS THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS ACHIEVING OUR GOAL…
4. The Execution And Future Plans..
Now we have had the opportunity to spread all that we
have learnt to our schoolmates. On the occasion of the
Independence Day, we held a quiz about famous events
and great freedom fighters who were instrumental in
obtaining India’s freedom from British. Our fellow
students were intrigued to learn about these valiant
leaders and the events and incidents which perhaps were
lesser known but equally important towards paving the
road towards India’s Independence.
We also plan to hold more such interesting activities other
than quizzes such as ship wreck, poster making, essay
writing etc.
5. The Impact…
The quiz was a grand success. This definitely brought about a
change in the mental outlook of the students towards our
country’s heritage and made them keener to learn and delve into
the rich store of our country history and culture. It has opened up
their minds to the treasure trove of culture, tradition and customs
that India possesses.
Through our initiatives we hope that we helped our fellow
students realise that as Indians it is important to protect and
preserve our splendid and magnificent culture
