2. About Herpes
HAVING THE HERPES VIRUS
SYMPTOMS?
When it comes to any disease, awareness
and knowledge is must to avoid any serious
consequences. Especially, when it comes to
a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) like
Herpes, you need to be extra conscious and
knowledgeable about herpes virus
symptoms, causes, effects, diagnosis and
treatment. However, sometimes, instead of
researching well about a particular ailment
or talking to an expert physician, people
usually make their own perceptions about it.
These myths spread like a grapevine leading
to misinformation and wrong guidance.
4. People with Herpes are always contagious:
This myth is severe of all because it directly impacts the
emotional, mental and social wellbeing of a person. Though,
Herpes virus can shed from the skin even when symptoms are not
present, the person is not always contagious. Most contamination
occurs during severe outbreaks when symptoms are present. This
is when the person is infectious and prohibited to do sex with the
partner or share eatables with others. Otherwise, when there are
no visible symptoms, there are fewer chances of infection.
5. HSV positive person cannot donate blood:
As per the American Red Cross, people with oral or genital
herpes are not restricted to donate blood as long as they are
feeling healthy and don’t have any other restricted infections or
diseases that can spread through blood such as AIDS. Both HSV
1 and HSV2 herpes spread only through direct skintoskin
contact or contact with infected saliva. Therefore, the HSV
positive people can still donate blood. However, during the first
outbreak or initial herpes virus symptoms, the person should
not donate blood because for the very first time, it's possible for
a small amount of the virus to enter the bloodstream.
6. Genital Herpes can be contracted from the toilet seat:
No medical evidence shows that the person can catch
the HSV virus by sitting on the toilet seat. The truth is
that genital Herpes cannot survive upon exposure to air
because it is a rather weak virus. It dries out quickly
when exposed to air and in cold, dry surfaces of toilets,
the virus probably dies very quickly. Also, up till now,
there have been no proven cases of someone
contracting herpes from the toilet seat.
8. Herpes means your partner has been cheated:
If you are in a monogamous relationship for many years
and suddenly your partner is showing herpes virus
symptoms, it does not necessarily mean that he/she has
cheated you. A person can have genital herpes for many
months or several years without even knowing it.
Sometimes the genital herpes virus systems are very mild
and go unnoticed.
Many people have several misconceptions about herpes that
render them helpless due to lack of knowledge. Getting
educated about the virus is important, but that education
should be right, not misleading.
