A logistics giant operating a network of high-velocity transportation
facilities and distribution infrastructure, faced several challenges in the
area of fleet management. It’s business critical application - the Field
Information System [FIS] - which enables 80% of its revenues, was a
legacy system that required modernization with new functionalities

HCL’s solution lay in leveraging its extensive offshore network where several of the systems were developed and
interlinked.
Field Information System (FIS): Billing (Rental, Lease, Sales & Service, Misc), Fuel processing and billing, Rental
Counter activities, Invoicing, Sales Tax, Applications, Rental billing
Customer Management Solutions: Contact Information Management, Pipeline Deals Management, Pricing Model and
System Analytics in the context of the client’s sales processes
EDI with trading partners: HCL supports the client’s EDI production environment for 18 hours a day split into two
shifts. This model is running successfully for over 2 years and HCL brought good practices and support methodologies
to the table which helped the client reduce support related issues
SMO (Shop Management Online): A web based application built in JWALK / AS400 that allows the client effectively
maintain its fleet of trucks, providing maintenance functionality for Repair Orders, Inventory and Employee Attendance.
Rydesmart: A fully featured GPS vehicle that allows location tracking, distance travelled, and vehicle performance
Eliminate Night Shop: The client runs a list of scheduled jobs, day and night and these pertain to various activities like
purging of aged data, reorganization of database files, managing backups, reporting, etc. Some of these jobs run during
the night, hence the project was to optimize overnight jobs and make the system available for users 24x6
Rental COI: The key business objective of this project is centralization and maintenance of local rental rates and
insurance certificates which subsequently reduce rental errors, billing and credit memos
