A former piano teacher who sexually abused several children in central
Victoria installed a spy camera in a homemade toilet used by his
victims, a court heard today.
Colin Harold Doo, 51, pleaded guilty at the Supreme Court today to 36
charges including 12 counts of committing an indecent act in the
presence of a child under 16, nine of producing child pornography and
seven of rape.
Doo was a piano tutor and worked at a local primary school, the court
heard.
He befriended the parents of his victims and managed to ingratiate
himself into their lives, Crown prosecutor Ray Gibson said.
The court heard Doo gave his victims lollies, chips and soft drink at his
house, which was a shed at the rear of his father's property.
He also had computer games for girls to play. Mr Gibson said there
were nine victims between 1996 and January 2008. Four cameras were
installed in his house, including one in a home-made toilet, the court
heard.
Doo wrote a letter to one victim, saying he was in love with her and he
had "never felt this much emotion for anyone before".
2. "Just being near you delights me," he wrote.
Mr Gibson told the court that when police showed the victim the letter
she said she had never seen it before.
Doo drugged his youngest victim before raping and indecently
assaulting her, the court heard.
The court heard that some of the footage from cameras showed the
victims changing their clothes and using the toilet.
Doo also had ceiling chains installed and used sex toys on some of his
victims' bodies.
Mr Gibson said he showed one girl some pornography at her house,
and asked her: "You like stuff like that?"
Doo bought gifts for some of his victims, including an engraved bracelet,
a teddy bear and a Valentine's Day card.
After a second search of his home by police, Doo told officers he had
burnt 10 video cassettes in a frying pan.
In February 2008 police seized more than 1000 CDs, 21 computer hard
drives and women's and children's clothing.
A month earlier, police had seized 58 video cassettes, 47 DVDs and 12
computer hard drives, five video cameras, sex toys and stirrups covered
with pink padding.
3. Justice Paul Coghlan remanded Doo in custody ahead of sentencing at
a date to be fixed.
