2. Soyou want to get out of debt and it
not cost you anything? Me too.
However, that is not really feasible.
Although there are several methods
that are used to get out of debt
cheaply, eg. bankruptcy, even that is
going to cost you.
3. There are also some who will tell you
that you can write enough letters to
your creditors disputing your debts
and they will eventually give in to you
or miss a deadline, don’t count on it.
Computers do the work these days.
4. There aren’t any grants given by the
government to wipe your debt clean
either. But if you really want to be
debt free for free, all it takes is time
and a thick skin. What am I talking
about?
5. There are no debtors prisons anymore and
depending on the size of each of your
debts, there may not be much pressure
for you to pay. If you just don’t pay and
you wait long enough, those bad debts
will be wrote off and sold to a collection
agency. Now, most states have statutes of
limitations on debt collecting so it is
possible to walk away from your debt.
6. That is not recommended however. It
could land you in court, get your wages
garnished, and even your property
auctioned, though not likely.
The best way to be debt free is to make a
plan and pay them off. Begin by calling
your creditors. Be honest but firm. Tell
them what you can afford to pay if
anything. Ask for a repayment plan but
get it in writing. Also be aware that any
acknowledgement of a debt can start the
statute of limitations clock all over again.
7. Be careful. Don’t fall for the scams on
the internet telling you that you can
wipe $30,000 of debt away by writing
letters. Would you forgive a $30,000
debt because someone wrote you a
letter?
