This document outlines the structure and components of a METS (Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard) file including sections for descriptive, administrative, and structural metadata as well as file maps. It also includes sections on PREMIS (PREservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies) objects, events, agents, and rights statements. Other components summarized are ISDF (International Standard Description Form), PDI (Preservation Description Information), PRONOM (technical registry for file format identification and characterization), submission agreements, and standards for archival description including ISAD(G) and ISAAR(CPF).
